The difference between draperies and curtains
People use the words interchangeably, but there is a real distinction that matters when you are investing in window treatments for your home. Draperies are structured, fully lined panels designed to frame a room and control light with precision. They hang from a rod or track system with formal pleating that holds its shape over time.
Custom curtains tend to be lighter, more casual, and work beautifully in spaces where you want movement and softness. Draperies are the choice when the room calls for something more intentional, more tailored to the architecture itself. Think of them as the difference between a made-to-measure suit and a great off-the-rack shirt. Both have their place, but they serve different purposes.
At My Walls, our custom draperies are fabricated to your exact window dimensions, with fabric, lining, and pleat style selected during an in-home consultation where we see the space firsthand. Nothing is left to guesswork.

Pleating and heading options for every interior
The heading style defines the character of the entire treatment. Each option creates a different silhouette, a different fall, a different interaction with light.
Pinch
Pleat
The classic. Two or three-finger pleats create structured, evenly spaced folds. Works in virtually any room and pairs well with both traditional and transitional interiors.
Goblet
Pleat
A rounded, wine-glass shaped heading that holds its form with structured padding. The most formal option, ideal for rooms where the drapery is the focal point.
Inverted
Box Pleat
Clean, contemporary lines with the pleat folded inward for a flat, tailored front face. A strong choice for modern Orlando homes with minimal interiors.
Ripple
Fold
Continuous S-curve waves that glide on a track system. Works beautifully with motorized hardware and floor-to-ceiling windows common in newer Orlando construction.
Full-home drapery,
Golden Oak
Fourteen rooms, each with a different window configuration, and every panel fabricated to match a cohesive design language across the entire residence. Pinch-pleat headings in Belgian linen with triple-pass blackout lining for the bedrooms and sheer-backed panels for the living spaces.

Selected for Florida's climate
Not every fabric performs well in Central Florida. The combination of intense UV exposure, humidity, and the temperature swings between air-conditioned interiors and outdoor heat puts real stress on window treatments. We guide every client toward materials that hold their color, resist moisture, and drape the way they should for years.
Belgian Linen
Breathable, naturally textured, and ages with character. Our most requested fabric for living rooms and bedrooms throughout Orlando and Windermere.
Performance Velvet
Stain-resistant, fade-resistant, and engineered for high-use spaces. A refined look without the maintenance concerns of traditional velvet in Florida's climate.
Cotton-Linen Blends
The weight of cotton with the drape of linen. Versatile, easy to maintain, and available in a wide palette for both traditional and modern interiors.
Silk & Silk Blends
When the room calls for something with real presence. We work with treated silk blends that resist fading in Florida's intense afternoon light.

Everything you need to know
Draperies are fully lined, structured panels that hang with formal pleating and are designed to control light, temperature, and privacy with precision. Curtains are typically lighter, unlined or partially lined, and work best in spaces where you want softness and movement rather than a tailored, architectural look. Both are custom-made at My Walls, but draperies are the choice when the room calls for something more refined and permanent.
Custom draperies are priced based on window dimensions, fabric selection, lining type, pleat style, and hardware. Because every project is different, we provide detailed pricing during your in-home consultation after we measure and discuss your preferences. There is no obligation, and you receive a clear, itemized proposal before any commitment.
From consultation to installation, the process typically takes four to six weeks depending on fabric availability and the scope of the project. Larger homes with multiple rooms may require additional time. We keep you informed at every stage and schedule installation at a time that works for you.
Florida's UV intensity and humidity require fabrics that resist fading and moisture damage. We recommend Belgian linen, performance velvet, cotton-linen blends, and treated silk blends for most Orlando-area homes. During your consultation, we help you choose the right material based on your room's sun exposure, desired opacity, and how the space is used day-to-day.
Absolutely. Many of our clients layer draperies over roller shades, Roman shades, or motorized blinds. This combination gives you the aesthetic presence of drapery panels with the practical light and privacy control of shades underneath. We design the layering so both treatments work together visually and functionally.
